David “Dave“ Mott Wardrobe Supervisor, Costumer and Propmaster For over 40 years it has been a goal of David’s to bring to the screen well-researched, authentic historic Seminole clothing. When his family moved to Florida, he started his lifelong study of the Southern Indigenous cultures while active in the Boy Scouts. After graduating from Columbia College Chicago, David worked on several productions as an assistant before becoming a news camera operator and editor in Fort Myers, Florida. During that time, he became friends with members of the Seminole Tribe. Those connections have informed his direction as he traveled the country photographing artifacts and meeting with amateur and professional scholars. He began making and collecting reproductions of the historical clothing of the Southern people. Several museums have Florida Indigenous material culture exhibits he curated. David was invited to feature some of his beadwork at an international exhibit of Southeastern bead workers that celebrated a rebirth of the unique style of the craft. He is a contributor to the book 19th Century Seminole Men’s Clothing which became the standard to reproducing clothing of that period. Recently, David has continued to mentor and encourage the next generation of Seminole, Creek, Cherokee and Choctaw artists. He has lived in Orlando since 1999.
